five and out

It was near 90 and sunny outside today, so I stayed indoors and hit up the treadmill at work. Five miles in 42:07. Kept it pretty slow (around 8:30/mi) for the first four before picking it up for the last mile. Afterwards my lower left ankle was feeling pretty tender. Wondering if I should get new shoes sooner rather than later.

back on the trail

Summer seems to have officially started this weekend here in Northeast Ohio. So I headed outdoors for a run on the towpath in Brecksville. I headed north and did mile one in a quick 7:14. From there I slowed and was just over 24 minutes at the three mile mark. I turned around then and headed back. I finished in 49:16, for a 8:12/mi pace. I wasn't out to set any records, just get a few miles under my belt.

I'm still trying to decide my summer racing schedule. I think my next race is going to be a 5K in 3 weeks. I've never really trained for one, and will likely just end up starting training for some other event (like a half marathon) and just happen to run the 5K as part of my training. I'm really more of a long distance runner than short. I'm not very competitive at short distances at this point, and don't really care to try to be.

back from vacation

Had my first post-vacation run today on the treadmill at the gym at work. I managed to log 4 miles in 31:13. Not too shabby. Felt good and just kept picking up the pace. And I wore my "blister-proof" socks today and they seemed to actually work.

running on vacation?

I did take my shoes with me on vacation, and got in a run while in Kansas City, MO today. I had high expectations since there was a great little park to run in that had a one-mile loop. But it was hot, and I must have been weighed down from all the food I had been consuming. I think I managed to log about 3 miles, with some walking mixed in. Not my best run, but better than nothing.

rained out

Was planning to do a work-sponsored 5K today after work, but it rained all day and I did not feel like getting soaked. So I stayed indoors and stayed dry and knocked out 4 miles on the treadmill. Managed to get them done in just under 32 minutes. Not bad.

first post marathon run

Did my first post-marathon run today. Did 3 miles and did not feel too bad. I plan to cut back the mileage but to keep running and hopefully keep the gains that I have made in the past few months.

Marathon #2


I managed to complete my second marathon today as I ran the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, OH. I also shaved 15 minutes off my previous time! Here are my numbers:

Final time: 3:52:12
Overall rank: 1116 of 4172
Class rank (men 25-29): 83 of 233
Pace: 8:51 per mile

final warmup

I had my final warmup run today before the big marathon on Sunday. I kept the pace slow and logged about 3 miles. Didn't feel too bad. Starting to get nervous.
